THE ELECTRICITY SITUATION iN NIGERIA

Last Monday, the Minister of Power, Engr. Abubakar Aliyu, blamed the country's poor energy supply on gas supply issues. According to Malam Isa Sanusi, the Minister's media aide, the "drop in power generation is due to the temporary suspension of the Oben gas plant to address the maintenance of essential gas processing equipment." The incident "unfortunately occurred at a time when other power plants on other gas sources are undergoing planned maintenance and capacity testing," the government said, adding, "We wish to notify the public that Seplat Energy Plc has mobilised equipment, material, and personnel to site in order to expedite the restoration of normal gas supply to the affected power plants." We've been informed that the repairs will be completed this weekend and that normalcy will be restored. While we are appealing with power users about the present status of supply, we want to reassure the broader public that efforts are being undertaken to increase supply around the nation."
